Salvador Dali was born on May 11, 1904 in Figueres, Catalonia, Spain. He died on January 23, 1989. Salvador Dali was a skilled artist best known for his striking and strange works of art.
He was encouraged to become an artist by his mother and he attended art school. In 1922 he moved to Madrid where he continued to study art and experiment with strange figures. He became famous in 1928 at an exhibition. Dali's surrealistic paintings are inspired by Cubism (strange works of art) and Sigmund Freud. In Paris, Dali met his wife Gala Dali and she is featured in many paintings. Dali had mental problems and when his mother passed away he moved back to his home country to take an entrance exam to the art academy. Dali has also made films. The most famous is The Andalusian Dog in 1928. When World War II began, Dali fled to the United States with his wife. there he painted many famous paintings. After 8 years he moved back to Spain where he lived until he died. He turned 85. Dali is buried under the floor of an art museum (unclear which). During his lifetime he made 1500 paintings.
